Apparently the deadline for a deal to get worked out with the KHL has passed and now Sergei is free to come to Vancouver.

Not sure what to expect from him but he did lead his team in scoring last year.

and just like that we have a very exciting crop of youth coming up. I expect 4th line duty and him to moan and complain as he is not getting top 6 time or opportunity.

but am interested to see him finally.

not sure where you get that from. he led his team in scoring in both the playoffs and regular season as a 22 year old. Kid's got talent.
from some of his mannerisms in the youtube vid, he kind of reminds me of Mogilny. (not saying he's that good of course, but just has some of the same moves)

and yes, I would be surprised he wasn't a Moose first. initially a decent replacement for Krog maybe?

translation:
Shirokov: play for CSKA or leave. I prefer to leave.

Forward Sergei Shirokov was suspended by KHL for 1 year for not signing a new contract with CSKA. He told championat.ru that he is ready to fight until the end. Now he has no choice but to cross the ocean.

- I'm holding my position. I'm going to check whether I can play at NHL level - told Shirokov to championat.ru correspondent Alyona Shilova. - I don't hold anything against CSKA. I even understand their position. I talked today with coach/GM Sergei Nemchinov and we wished each other good luck.

- It's not a secret that CSKA had few inquiries to trade you and Denis Parshin lately. Why didn't it happen?
- Obviously, CSKA didn't want to lose us and hoped until the last moment that we sign with them. They did everything possible for it. Denis signed. I decided to leave. Let me repeat, I don't hold any grudges against CSKA. I understand their position. But I made my decision and I'm leaving, while Denis [Parshin] will continue playing for CSKA.

- Until last moment you were saying that you wanted to play in Russia, in KHL
- I did. But now I have little choice: play for CSKA or leave [Russia]. I prefer to leave. Because from the very beginning I was saying I didn't want to play for CSKA and asked to be traded. If it's NHL - let it be NHL. NHL is the best league in the World, that's what everybody says, isn't it? I want to try playing there.

- How far are you in your negotiations with Vancouver?
- I have an offer. Contract is already at my home. We are discussing details and I'm going to sign it in nearest future
