Happy Birthday Trevor Linden

We do not retire many players numbers…. but they are important ones.

I was not there for #12 being hung to the rafters and I can tell you that I wasn’t as somber about Steamer retiring as I was Linden. You see I practically grew up with Trevor…. oh not in how you might think, I have only met him a 1/2 dozen times and while he would remember my name, I would not say we were friends. Trevor and I are the same age across a few months. I was watching when Trevor was drafted to the Canucks. I was watching when Trevor played his first regular season game, when he scored his first goal, when he played his first playoff game and when he took us to the Stanley Cup Finals, and… I was there when he played his last game.

The Canucks thankfully do not retire numbers so easily to create a false sense of history and greatness like other teams. I admire that about this franchise. Yes we have only had one raised for many years but that one was incredibly important to our team for all the years #12 played for us as our Captain and Leader. The same is said now for #16.

NO-ONE in the history of this franchise meant more to this team, this city, and to this fan as #16.

Trevor Lindens Jersey is going up tonight and I will be there. I will be there with a lump in my throat.

Thank you Trevor for you have done, for you will do and for all that you are.

You have meant a great deal to me and my family for your career here. Im truly lucky to have had the opportunity to cheer for you every night.
