Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Mike Gillis announced that the Canucks have reduced their pre-season roster by eight players today. The Canucks now have 29 players on their pre-season roster.
The following players have been assigned to the Manitoba Moose:
Nolan Baumgartner, Defence
Alexandre Bolduc, Centre
Mario Bliznak, Centre
Guillame Desbiens, Right Wing
Michael Grabner, Right Wing
Nathan McIver, Defence
Matt Pope, Right wing
Cory Schneider, Goaltender

Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the team has signed right wing, Sergei Shirokov.
Shirokov, 23, recorded 41 points (17-24-41) in 56 games with CSKA Moscow of the KHL in 2008-09. He has also appeared in two World Junior Championships as a member of team Russia in 2005 and 2006. In 12 games played over two tournaments, Shirokov registered 13 points (7-6-13).
The 5-foot-10, 176 lbs. native of Moscow, was drafted 163rd overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have agreed to a contract extension with Manitoba Moose Head Coach Scott Arniel.

Schroeder, 18, concluded the 2008-09 season with 45 points (13-32-35) in 35 games with the Gophers and fourth in the NCAA with a 1.3 points per game average. He was the only freshman to finish the season in the top 50 in scoring.
The 5-foot-8, 175-pound centre was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s Rookie of the Year, the College Hockey News National Rookie of the Year, the Minnesota Gophers Rookie of the Year and to the All-WCHA Second Team for efforts over the season.
The Burnsville, Minnesota native, also appeared at the 2009 World Junior Championships as a member of Team USA. He led his team in scoring with 11 points and tied for second in the tournament with eight assists. Schroerder now holds the career record for Team USA at World Junior Championships with 15, surpassing Doug Weight (14).
