December is the time for taking and giving

Friday, December 4th, 2009

The Canucks are in the month that will most likely define their game and their season. With the game almost every second night the Canucks will have the ability to finally get into a grove and start taking away some points from teams that they handed to them on a platter early in this season.

The Canucks are on a 2 game winning streak and are now 6-4 in their last 10 and have won 6 of their last 8 and 4 of their last 5. They are 4 games over .500 and tied for 8th spot in the Western Conference. Roberto Luongo is coming off back to back games and wins with one shut out (2 on the season) and finally rounding into his Usual November form… but this time it will hopefully be in December (2010 is coming soon Bobby Lou and you are fighting for that starting position).

This month is prime for Vancouver to gain ground and they MUST be a minimum of 6 to 8  games over .500 before the 14 game road trip starts for the Olympic break in order to seriously compete for a playoff spot in the stretch run. They have started December with 2 wins and are finally finding their road game as well something that eluded them for some time. Daniel Sedin is back as well and the line of Sedin – Sedin – Burrows is finding their groove together to allow now the rest of the lines to balance out and find theirs as well.

The Defense is now scoring again as well and we hope they keep it going as we need more points coming from the blue line.

In light of of the theme of taking away points from the teams that Canucks will be playing CanucksRepublic.com will be donating $5 for every win this season to CanucksPlace.org. We hope that anyone who reads this will do the same. They are a wonderful charity doing wonderful things for incredible children and their families.

2009-2010 Canucks Season Preview

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

The Canucks 2008-2009 Regular season ended with a energetic boost going into the post season with as high as expectations in a long time. That came crashing down hard in a 7-5 loss at the hands of the pesky young Chicago Blackhawks led by Patrick “20 cent” Kane.

Luongo released his emotions after that game and took the heavy burden of the loss himself and vows to make amends in the upcoming season.

Key Outgoing – Mats Sundin. Mattias Ohlund, Jason Labarbera, Curtis Sanford
Key Incoming – Sergei Shirokov, Christan Ehrhoff, Andrew Raycroft, Mikael Samuelsson, Mathieu Schneider

Those are the most notable players that will most likely affect what the Canucks do this season.

For Defense Schneider will start on the IR but when he returns he should give a huge influx into the Canucks PP for the upcoming season. He should be expected back about when Sami Salo has his first or second injury of the season. Ehrhoff is probably the biggest addition this season for a dman who has some defensive short comings but under the AV system we should see a much improved dman who will be a welcome addition to our blueline. Bieksa, Edler, and Mitchell will be their usual steady selves with Edler looking to make the jump in both minutes and key situations as he continues to grow in his role. Defensive Rating B+

For Forwards the biggest addition via the UFA market was Mikael Samuelsson who was brought in to be a supplement to the Canucks scoring depth and not a saviour… you hear that all fickle fans a supplement. He is in no way going to be a 30 goal scorer expect 18 to 22 goals from him and a decent two way player. Sergei Shirokov and the rest of the youth are  huge keys to the Canucks success this upcoming season. No dont think its because he will be the next Pavel Bure but to win in this NHL you need youth to step up and more than fill spots. They need to contribute. Shirokov, Raymond, Wellwood, Bernier all need to be productive players this season, all need to break out of their shells and become consistent NHL players if the Canucks hope to truly contend for a Stanley Cup. Players like Kesler, Burrows, the Sedins, Johnson, Hordichuk and Rypien will provide what they provide with the Sedins expected to get their usual PPG with a hope they bring up their games to 90 point seasons. Forward Rating B-

For the Goaltenders… or should we say Goaltender? Raycroft signed on to backup Roberto Luongo and learn from him. Well I guess he will learn sitting on the bench as he probably wont get more than 12 to 14 games. Expect our Captain to continune his 68 to 70 starts this season and challenge for the Starting role with Team Canada. Roberto doesnt have to prove he is a great goalie. Roberto has to prove in the playoffs that he is a clutch goalie when the game is on the line. The regular season will be meaningless as we know he will be excellent but when the playoffs come past the first round Roberto has to step up his game even more and become the goalie that deserves the 12 year deal he recently signed. He has not stepped back in our minds but has reset to having to prove himself in the playoffs when it matters most. Goalie Rating A.

The Canucks should challenge for the Div title if not win it outright but Calgary will be tough and it will come down to Kipper vs Luongo on which team succeeds more which will be beneficial for both teams in the season and make them tough to play against all season long. Both teams will likely challenge for 2nd in the West and top 5 in the league and we hope and think the Canucks will be the more successful team. That is all water under the bridge if the Canucks bow out of the playoffs in the 1st or 2nd round. Team Rating B

A task which falls on Luongo and the Sedins…. and dont forget the youth….

Season Preview coming SOON!!!!

Season End Review and Upcoming Season Preview Spectacular!

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

With the Season coming to a dramatic finish in a series that the Canucks had no business losing. A number of questions come to mind on many players. We will review each player from the season and their stats and speak a little about the upcoming draft and free agency before we can even tackle the upcoming season we must first look at the past.

Daniel Sedin – Daniel had a career year and increased his stats in every category from the season before. The increases were not even small either. Goals were increased by 2, points by 8 and plus/minus by 18. The only stat that fell on Daniel was his PIMS by 14 penalties. Daniel had a record playoffs as well with 10 points in 10 games with his best game coming in game 6 elimination against Chicago. Daniel is up for UFA on July 1st and like his brother has requested a 12 year deal in the neighborhood of $63 to $64 M dollars. A cap hit of $5.25M per season. Considering his ever increasing point production and leadership its a wonder why this deal is not signed yet. They will not play until they are 40. My guess is that its probably front loaded and the Canucks ownership doesnt want to shell out the big money up front and want them to play to the end. I think cap hit is way more important than salary in this new NHL and for a PPG player I dont see why he wouldnt be signed at this…. Not to mention his durability… Season Rating B+. Playoff Rating B.

Henrik Sedin - Henrik had a career year and increased his stats in every category from the season before. The increases were not even small either. Goals were increased by 7, points by 6 and plus/minus by 16. The only stat that fell on Daniel was his PIMS by 8 penalties. Henrik had a record playoffs as well with 10 points in 10 games with his best game coming in game 6 elimination against Chicago. Henrik is up for UFA on July 1st and like his brother has requested a 12 year deal in the neighborhood of $63 to $64 M dollars. A cap hit of $5.25M per season. Considering his ever increasing point production and leadership its a wonder why this deal is not signed yet. This sound familiar? Of Course it does because like Daniel, Henriks stats, career, life is a twin image… Season Rating B+. Playoff Rating B.

Ryan Kesler – Ryan Kesler had a career year and topped it off with a Selke nominated season (he lost to Datysuk). He had career goals, points and was handed a letter on his jersey to show the direction is as important in youth as it is in goaltending. Before being split up from Burrows  everyone thought the success from both season was each other. It turns out both are versatile in their game and can add scoring, aggressive play and still be huge pests. His playoff stats and performance fell way below average after the Blues series. Season Rating B. Playoff Rating C.

Pavol Demitra – Pavol Demitra had the exact year we expected him to have. Produce moderately when playing and be injured for the most important stretches. We knew what we were getting and it was pretty much a slam dunk that he would disappear when needed most. He has talent galore but misses the drive to be an upper echelon player at this stage of his career. His career has been riddled with injuries and although he produced more than the player he replaced (Naslund) his salary was the same and did not provide the needed punch for the whole season. Season Rating C. Alexandre Burrows - Alex Burrows had the career seasons of career seasons. he became one of the teams most valuable players and scored more goals on the Sedin line than anyone since Anson Carter…… He also signed a very modest 4 year deal at $2M a season showing that his importance to the team as a leader is as solid as his production and pesty nature. Alex scored goals. He scored BIG goals in timely situations. None bigger than what set it off against Carolina to break the slump and give him a finish to the season most only dream of. He was stellar against St Louis but tailed off against Chicago. Season Rating A+. Playoff Rating B.

Kevin Bieksa – Great bounce back year for Kevin in terms of injury recuperation and production. He provided the sparks needed and toughness desired for a defenseman of his nature. While his stats are not comparable to the year before due to the horrific injury he experienced he bounced back with a career year with 9 less games played than his first big year. Kevin is a bright spot on defense and is emerging at the right time with Mattias Ohlund going into free agency, his playoffs were less than stellar but he did provide the toughness needed he just has to get his mental edge down to combine the 2 to be as effective as the best in the NHL. Season Rating B+. Alexander Edler – The up and coming swede is just that. Up and Coming. In a season where we see Mattias Ohlund most likely leave the Canucks his replacement has jumped up into the light with an impressive sophomore campaign. While at times he struggled with the NHL speed the young swede proved himself a capable NHL defenseman that can log top minutes and be in your top 4. All this at 23 years of age. Season Rating B. Steve Bernier - Another step for young Steve Bernier in his NHL career at becoming a power foward. While he has tenacity in the corners and can fight and hit and be strong in front of the net His lack of finish is concerning but his age is not. If this kid can find his hands we could have a wonderful power forward that wont shy away from any contact in front of the Net. Season Rating C. Playoff Rating C.

Mats Sundin – Brought in to be the difference of a contender and pretender Mats Sundin never did make the grade to being a difference. He was a nice complement but not at the price tag he came at. What was immensely valuable for Sundins time in Vancouver was his impact on Ryan Kesler. This was very valuable and worth the money he was paid to score. Unfortunately in the playoffs that was another matter. in a time where Sundin has played his best hockey he became nothing more than a role player where he would not find his place in the playoffs. Aside from his many bad minor penalties during the season (41 games that it was) it was clear he should have made his decision sooner and played more games in the system. Season Rating D. Kyle Wellwood – Wellwood. Wellfed. WellPlayed for a player that was not considered NHL material and was passed by 29 other teams when put on waivers and placed on recall waivers. Wellwood scored some big goals in the first half of the season and barely any in the 2nd half. Most were on the power play where he spent most of his time and was not given a fair chance on the top 6 for most of the season. When he did get his time he produced. He should be re-signed at a one or two year deal. Season Rating C+. Playoff Rating C.

Mattias Ohlund – The old warrior seems to have played his final game with the team that drafted him. He had a great many years in a Canucks uniform and its sad to see him go….. and going he was he was getting slower taking stupid slow penalties and clearly was no longer a threat at all in any offensive role. He still is a very good defenseman but not for the money he will command in his first UFA market. Matty exemplified what it meant being a Canuck and unfortunately his time has come as we need a more mobile puck moving defenseman that can play the point. Season Rating C+. Playoff Rating B-.

Sami Salo - The record of when Sami Salo in the lineup is extraordinary. Our win % is above .700 with him in the line up and it is proven he may have been and is our most valuable offensive defenseman….. but he has not played a full season in his career and every year you can count on him getting injured for a lengthy period of time. That being said his cannon of a shot and what he brings to us is like the polar opposite everything negative he brings in just being injured. He has one year left on his contract and I dont see him being re-signed after it is done. Season Rating B-. Playoff Rating C+.

Willie Mitchell – Our most prominent shut down dman. Willie was stellar all year and had career stats in points and plus/minus. His gaffe in game 4 changed the series against Chicago and most likely really cost us a conference final appearance. He seemed to panic after that in almost every major situation as the Canucks never won another game after that nor were even remotely in the series. Willie has to be the biggest defenseman on the planet in order for this team to shut down the other teams big stars. That was what he was brought to do and has failed to do so when it matters. He also has one year left on his contract and needs to have an even better season to see bigger money. Season Rating B. Playoff Rating C-.

Mason Raymond – While the stats did not really show it this really was the coming out year for Mason Raymond. His playoff play was excellent and if given a more offensive role will find the hands to finish with his blazing speed. Mason is a player that every team needs to succeed and we hope that he is the one we have to push us for more youth movement. Season Rating C+. Playoff Rating B-.

Taylor Pyatt – Pyatts tragedy over the season was immense and his loss felt across the league. We wish him the best and hope he can recover his career in the NHL. His stats fell apart from the year before and his play was a shadow of what he could have been. Going into his contact year after this last year will most certainly not see him back for more than $1M per season. Season Rating D+. Playoff Rating D-.

Shane O’Brien – SOB was one tough um SOB. But his minor league penalties were in abundance and cost us early in the season. Without any regular season goals he cant be counted on for any offense and should slot in well in the 5th and 6th spot playing a tougher role with some more grit in front of the net. Season Rating C+. Roberto Luongo – Roberto Luongo had another tremendous regular season with the Canucks. He had a career year in shutouts. Smashed the Canucks shutout record with 9 and is coming into the final year of his contract. He made highlight reel save after save this year and was stellar in the first round of the playoffs for his second playoff stint. Then it all fell apart against Chicago. Eliminated in 6 games the goalie who became our captain who was to be our saviour went right back to square one in his playoff career. He is back to having to prove himself as a big game goalie and a playoff performer. Should the Canucks not get the Sedins signed and some important pieces of the puzzle we may lose Luongo to free agency next summer. Season Rating A+. Playoff Rating C-.

Coaching – Should have been nominated for coach of the year when you lose your goalie for 2 months its an amazing thing to keep them in the hunt for a playoff spot let alone win a Division Title. not sure if he is the one to lead us to the next level but we could be worse off with alot of the younger player coaches coming in to the NHL. The Season ended when it shouldnt have. The Season was another dissapointment in a series of dissapintments in this franchises sorry History. Anything less than a Conference final appearance is a failure and needs action each time. Its coming on 40 years of losing and its time to stop celebrating 1994… 1994 was loss and that is what should be remembered. We need new history we need winning.

NHL Player Needs before Sedins decide

- 3 Top 6 Forwards (1 if the Sedins decide to sign with the Canucks)

- 2 Top 4 defesemen (at least one puck moving dman and PP specialist)

- 1 Backup Goalie (Schneider is the man)

Draft Needs

- Potential  Top 6 Defenseman

- Diamond in the rough (a forward of Zetterberg material in his level of drafting)

19 Games to play – A Review of where the Canucks are!

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Here we are at the 63 game mark of the season. Our last review was at the 41 game mark. We have decided to do this review shortly after the Deadline to get a good mark for the end of season review.
The Canucks record stands at

32W – 22L – 8 OTL for 74 points (on pace for 96/97 points)

190 Goals For (on pace for 247 Goals For)
177 Goals Against (on pace for 230 Goals Against)

In Comparison to last year the Canucks had at the 63 game mark the following record

32W – 22L – 9 OTL for 73 points (Was on pace for 95/96 points and as we know failed miserably and fell to 88 points and missed the playoffs)
169 Goals For (Was on Pace for 219 Goals For and ended with 213 Goals For) we are currently 18 goals above last years mark
160 Goals Against (Was on Pace for 208 Goals Against and ended with 215 Goals Against) we are currently 17 goals above last years mark
We are currently 1 point above last years pace at this time.
We will now go through each players review for this season that is still with the club (last years stat totals in brackets)

Daniel Sedin, 63GP 25G 36A 61 PTS +18
on pace for 82GP 33G 47A 80 PTS +23 (29G 74 PTS)

Half Season Stats

Daniel Sedin, 41GP 19G 22A 41 PTS +9
was on pace for 82GP 38G 44A 82 PTS +18 (29G 74 PTS)
Half Season Rating B+

Daniel is moving on at a good pace to come close to a PPG, however he fell off the half season mark pace by 2 points. He has also increased his plus minus by double and is on pace for a +23 to close out a very solid campaign in a contract year. Daniel has been a model of consistency for the Canucks the problem however is does that consistency move into the playoffs should we make it and become inconsistent again?

New Rating B+

Henrik Sedin, 63GP 12G 48A 60 PTS +13
on pace for 82GP 16G 62A 78 PTS +17 (15G 76 PTS)

Half Season Stats

Henrik Sedin, 41GP 7G 30A 37 PTS +6
was on pace for 82GP 14G 60A 74 PTS +12 (15G 76 PTS)
Half Season Rating B-

To get Henriks review see Daniels….. Thats how consistent he is at being consistent with his Brother. These guys are identical in every way but goals and assists. Henriks points are dipped by 2 as well and his plus minus has doubled as has Daniels. He is on pace for dipping below last years totals and again in his contract year has been a model of consistency a model of consistency a model of consistency…. sorry about that Its like an identical review for an identical twin.

New Rating B

Pavol Demitra, 50GP 17G 22A 39 PTS +8
on pace for 65GP 22G 29A 51 PTS +10 (15G 54 PTS)

Half Season Stats

Pavol Demitra, 31GP 11G 11A 22 PTS +1
was on pace for 62GP 22G 22A 44 PTS +02 (15G 54 PTS)
Half Season Rating C+

Pavol is exactly where we thought he would be at this time and is a model of inconsistent consistency. We have never seen a player like him where he can consistently dissapear for long periods of Time and then reappear for a good streak of goals and points. already eclipsed last years goal totals. We will see how he performs during crunch time.

New Rating C+

Ryan Kesler, 63GP 19G 22A 41PTS +7
on pace for 82GP 25G 29A 53 PTS +9 (21G 37 PTS)

Half Season Stats

Ryan Kesler, 41GP 9G 11A 20 PTS +3
was on pace for 82GP 18G 22A 40 PTS +6 (21G 37 PTS)
Half Season Rating C+

After a slow struggle during a long losing Streak Ryan Kesler has once again taken the team on a wild ride. Scoring 10 G in his last 22 games and adding 11 assists in that time for 21 points in his last 22 games Ryan is quickly becoming a true leader in our dressing room and it is needed. He has also increased his plus minus and has become an all important player on the newly formed RPM line.

New Rating B+

Kevin Bieksa, 63GP 10G 24A 34 PTS +1
on pace for 70GP 13G 31A 44 PTS +1 (2G 12 PTS)

Half Season Stats

Kevin Bieksa, 32GP 5G 15A 20 PTS EVEN
was on pace for 64GP 10G 30A 40 PTS EVEN (2G 12 PTS)
Half Season Rating B.

Kevin is on pace for a career season in points and goals. Aside from an early season injury Kevin has really shown to be a very solid defensemen and great teammate. While he has had some lapses in play that have caused some turnovers, he has truly played well enough to over look those.

New Rating B+

Kyle Wellwood, 63GP 14G 7A 21 PTS +4
on pace for 72GP 18G 9A 27 PTS +5 (8G 21 PTS)

Half Season Stats

Kyle Wellwood, 36GP 14G 5A 19 PTS +7
was on pace for 72GP 28G 10A 38 PTS +14 (8G 21 PTS)
Half Season Rating B+

Where in the world is Kyle Wellwood? After taking the season by storm he has disappeared 100% and is quickly becoming the Canucks whipping boy for failure. He has missed some glorious chances to score and has been called out by his coach quite publicly. What was once a promising start to his comeback season has become a self pity trip of a season for Kyle.

New Rating D-

Steve Bernier, 55GP 14G 15A 29 PTS +4
on pace for 81GP 18G 20A 38 PTS +5 (16G 32 PTS)

Half Season Stats

Steve Bernier, 40GP 7G 12A 19 PTS +6
was on pace for 80GP 14G 24A 38 PTS +12 (16G 32 PTS)
Half Season Rating C -

Steve is have a decent year and cant be judged on the Salary he is making. A contract offer is a contract offer and had we not made one on Backes we wouldnt have had to pay Steve what we are. Steve is not using his size to his advantage even though he does play a physcial game. He needs to drive to the net more and be more consistent at shooting the puck.

New Rating C

Mason Raymond, 56GP 9G 11A 20 PTS +2
on pace for 73GP 12G 14A 26 PTS +3 (9G 21 PTS)

Half Season Stats

Mason Raymond, 41GP 9G 10A 19 PTS +8
was on pace for 82GP 18G 20A 38 PTS +16 (9G 21 PTS)
Half Season Rating C.

Mason like Kyle is having a good time at being a magic act. Noone can disappear like these two can. Mason is young, Mason is fast, Mason is a kid with good talent, Mason however is 2 dimensional and is not a very smart hockey player. He is not creative enough and has been shutdown quite easily and has been kept to the outside area where he has truly been no threat. He has sat out 7 of the last 22 games. We need Mason to succeed in order to be able to do something this season. We need our youth to prosper. Mason is not showing that.

New Rating D

Alex Burrows 63GP 18G 17A 35 PTS +10
on pace for 82GP 23G 22A 46 PTS +13 (12G 31 PTS)

Half Season Stats

Alex Burrows 41GP 8G 9A 17 PTS +2
was on pace for 82GP 16G 18A 34 PTS +4 (12G 31 PTS)
Half Season Rating B+

Alex has been our best forward all season long. He has shown true grit, amazing determination and shows no signs of slowing down regardless of his new $8M 4 year contract. Alex has become the fan favorite this year and has moved his way to the top line as the third Sedin.

New Rating A-

Alexander Edler, 61GP 7G 22A 29 PTS +4
on pace for 79GP 9G 29A 38 PTS +5(8G 20 PTS)

Half Season Stats

Alexander Edler, 39GP 3G 14A 17 PTS +1
was on pace for 78GP 6G 28A 34 PTS +2 (8G 20 PTS)
Half Season Rating C+

Alex Edler has been the turnover machine and for that we all have to remember one thing. His age. For him to still be the effective player that he is at this age is truly remarkable in this position. He will be Ohlunds replacement longterm. We just wish he didnt make so many young mistakes.

New Rating C+

Jannik Hansen, 52GP 6G 15A 21 PTS +7
on pace for 68GP 8G 20A 27 PTS +9 (0G 0 PTS)

Half Season Stats

Jannik Hansen, 37GP 4G 13A 17 PTS +4
was on pace for 74GP 08G 26A 34 PTS +8 (0G 0 PTS)
Half Season Rating C+

Hansen has not played since the Ottawa game on the 9th of February. This should change in the last stretch of the season as Wellwood will most certainly continue to struggle. While its tougher to rate him at this time his grit and speed will be welcome on the 4th line.

New Rating C

Mattias Ohlund, 63GP 4G 16A 20 PTS +4
on pace for 82GP 5G 21A 26 PTS +5 (9G 24 PTS)

Half Season Stats

Mattias Ohlund, 41GP 3G 10A 13 PTS +13
was on pace for 82GP 6G 20A 26 PTS +26 (9G 24 PTS)

Half Season Rating B+

Mattias is in his final year with the Canucks he has already told them that he will test the market but will negotiate with them in the offseason. By Gillis theory of Money Puck this should be Ohlunds last 19 regular season games as a Canuck. While he is in decline in his play he still is one of our best defenseman and continues to be the warrior he always has been. His plus/minus has taken a huge hit however his point total has stayed consistent.

New Rating C+

Willie Mitchell, 63GP 3G 16A 19 PTS +22

Willie Mitchell, 41GP 1G 10A 11 PTS +7
on pace for 82GP 02G 20A 22 PTS +14 (2G 12PTS)
Half Season Rating B+

Big Willie is playing a great season. Already meeting career highs in points and goals Willie is having a major increase in plus/minus and has been solid as the shutdown dman he is and keeping a plus (high plus) rating.

New Rating A

Taylor Pyatt, 55GP 7G 7A 14 PTS -1
on pace for 72GP 9G 9A 18 PTS -1 (16G 37 PTS)

Half Season Stats

Taylor Pyatt, 36GP 4G 6A 10 PTS -3
was on pace for 72GP 08G 12A 20 PTS -6 (16G 37 PTS)
Half Season Rating D.

Off what a terrible year for Pyatt. While he is doing some little things well 1 good game in every 10 is not worth having him around next year. He has been brutal this year and continues to kill his contract chances in his contract year. He does nothing for this team now like Wellwood and should be riding the pine with him and give Hansen more time on the ice.

New Rating D-

Sami Salo, 41GP 5G 11A 16 PTS +3
on pace for 53GP 7G 14A 21 PTS +4 (8G 25 PTS)

Sami Salo, 25GP 2G 8A 10 PTS +2
was on pace for 50GP 04G 16A 20 PTS +4 8G 25 PTS)
Half Season Rating D-.

Im shocked Sami has played this many games this season. He is not scoring on a pace that we need him to and we hope that he can score when it matters most. He has not unloaded his big shot and it seems to us that he is holding back more. Maybe he has a lingering shoulder injury. We will hope that he can string it together once Ohlund is gone he is our top Dman. Hell hes our top Dman for offense.

New Rating C-

Darcy Hordichuk, 56GP 4G 1A 5 PTS +2

Darcy Hordichuk, 37GP 4G 1A 5 PTS +3
was on pace for 74GP 08G 02A 10 PTS +6 (1G 3 PTS)
Half Season Rating B.

Darcy has been inconsistent this year and sadly with the way the NHL is going not effective for what he is needed to be Tough and Mean. We congratulate him on being a new Dad. We need him to be the menacing figure we signed him to be. Its good to have him for sure.

New Rating C

Shane O’Brien, 60GP 0G 10A 10 PTS +10

Half Season Stats

Shane O’Brien, 41GP 0G 5A 5 PTS +2
was on pace for 82GP 0G 10A 10 PTS +4 (4G 21 PTS)
Half Season Rating C+.

Shane has been a bright spot despite his minor penalties this season and his complaining about his role. He has increased in plus/minus and continues to become a valuable defenseman for this team. We wish he could be more offensive but will take this new and improved SOB over the last one we started with. He took the Tampa Bay trade too hard and still seems to have lingering comments about how he wished he never was traded. Can you believe Anaheim got such a high pick for him? We cant but we do appreciate having him over Lukas.

Half Season Rating A (no + as the injury hinders you badly).

Lou has had a tough time with bad goals per game. He has also had glorious moments of saves and games to keep his rating high. That being said Lou needs to be Canuck MVP Lou if we are to do any damage. With no moves on the deadline Lous first big test is against the Sharks. We need to win this game We need to know we can beat them. Lou is our Captain. His stats have dropped except for wins. He could use a couple more shutouts.

New Rating B+

Mike Gillis – Half Season Rating B+.

Mike you said you would spend to the Cap. you said Mats Sundin gave up salary so we can add another player. You didnt. We wish you added a bottom 6 shutdown guy and you did pick up Vaananen which is great depth. So we wish he still got a puck moving dman (leopold?) That being said He cant be fully rated until end of season is upon us.

New Rating B-. For not filling holes on the deadline

Alain Vigneault – Half Season Rating C+

Alain is exactly where he was last season. With 1 higher point. Like Mike he will be judged at seasons end. He has made some smart moves with the RPM line but he has shown mistakes with some other players (Wellwood?)

New Rating C+

Special Rating Mats Sundin – Our big Prize? We wont know what he was until seasons send and playoffs come and go. For Now Rating is a solid C. nothing gained nothing wasted. We will see at the end.
