Crombeen is one of the toughest Blues, but refused a first-period challenge to fight when, during the wait for a faceoff, Canucks Darcy Hordichuk, Shane O’Brien and Rick Rypien all chirped in Crombeen’s ear and dared him to drop his gloves.
“We gave him the option,” Hordichuk said. “Whoever he wanted. Apparently, he wanted the twins.”
Stars @ Canucks -7PM TSN-HD Luck of the Irish Night? – Maybe SOB will finally score a goal~
Tuesday, March 17th, 2009After beating the Colorado Avalanche for the first time in nine meetings, the Vancouver Canucks (36-23-9) will try to post their first win in three tries over the Dallas Stars (33-28-8) in what could be another historic night at General Motors Place.
It seemed only fitting that on Sunday night, playing in front of the 250th consecutive full house at GM Place, the Canucks celebrated the occasion by having the 18,630 in attendance witness history in the making. On the individual side, Vancouver’s longest active serving player, Mattias Ohlund, claimed the crown as the Canucks’ most prolific points-scoring defenceman when he recorded his 322nd career point as a Canuck(91-231-322) surpassing the previous record of 231 points held by Jyrki Lumme (83-238-321) and Dennis Kearns (31-29-321). As a team, the Canucks equaled a franchise record for most consecutive wins on home ice by posting their ninth straight win at The Garage with a 4-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche. The Canucks will now try to set a new franchise benchmark for most consecutive wins on home ice by posting their tenth straight win in front of the home crowd but in order to do that, they’ll need to find a way to beat the Stars for the first time this season.
Just a few months earlier, the Stars were considered by many to be a sure bet for the post-season but a poor stretch from February 21 – March 5 that saw them win just one of seven games (1-5-1) has them now fighting for their playoff lives. They are hoping that things are starting to turn around for them, however, as they are coming off back-to-back wins for the first time in a month following 3-2 victories over both the Hurricanes and the Wild.
They will be gunning for their first three-game win streak since January 21 – February 3 when they won five in a row. Tonight’s game also gives the Canucks another chance to see former teammate Brendan Morrison in his new Dallas duds. The Pitt Meadows native was recently claimed off waivers by the Stars from Anaheim – his third team in the last calendar year. Morrison had previously made a visit to Vancouver as a member of the Ducks back on December 22nd. He is currently sitting just three points shy of his 500th career NHL point.
Tonight’s game faces off at 7:00pm PST and can be seen coast-to-coast on TSN.
Quotable “Obviously it means I’ve played a lit of games, that’s what it means. At this time of year, it’s not something you think too much about. It’s just fun being a part of this group right now with the way we are playing. When you think about it, it is something nice to have, I guess. – Mattias Ohlund on his record-setting 322nd point to put him in first place on the Canucks’ all-time list for points by a defenceman.
