Gold Medal Game – Canada Vs USA

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

This is the biggest game of Roberto Luongos Career. He has the chance to win a major championship and a GOLD MEDAL in the 2010 Olympic Games. But he cant do it alone. Team Canada will need every man on their roster to beat this America Squad that is not an underdog. Is not a glad to be there team and is not going to go away easily.

Canada will have to be better than they were against Russia and Slovakia combined. No mistakes can be made, the Defense MUST stand tall and our forwards must control the play and the forecheck.

Luongo must be like he was on Pavol Demitra as he made what probably was the save of the tournament in a 3-2 game with 7 seconds left in the 3rd period.

Coach Babcock is a very intelligent coach and he must have the team prepared to play and skate hard. You KNOW the USA will be ready and nothing less than a strong start is expected.

Both teams are going in strong and confident and this game will be won by the team who really wants it the most.

Canucks Republic will be at the Gold Medal Game cheering loud, cheering proud and standing as tall as this country has for this entire Olympics.

The Gold Medal Game shouldnt be seen as the biggest event of the Olympics, nor is it, all the athletes of all the countries deserve more than than.

This is however the Biggest event in the history of hockey between the USA and Canada. We only want one result……..

Canada to face the Darkhorse of the Tournament – Slovakia

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

after what many believe should have been the Gold Medal final match up. Canada made short work of rival Russia in the Quarter Finals of the 2010 Olympic Hockey Tournament. Canada destroyed Russia 7-3 in what will be seen as a disaster for Russia and a massive Victory for Canada. Not because Canada beat Russia and moved on to the Semi Finals, but because they did in such a dominating style. Russia didnt stand a chance the entire game from the opening faceoff as Canada jumped out to a early 3-0 start and finished the period 4-1.

Roberto Luongo who replaced started Martin Brodeur was solid and only had to be great a few short times, that does not take away his importance to this game. He made the big save when it mattered most and helped deflate the Russians in front of a very hostile Canada crowd.

Crosby wasnt a factor. Ovechkin wasnt a factor. The line of Getzlaf, Perry and Morrow was brillant and they tallied 4 of Canadas 7 goals while Getzlaf was in Malkins ear all night long (prompting Malkin to elbow Getzlaf in the head while the Canadian was on his own bench).

Ryan Getzlaf, Dan Boyle, Rick Nash, Brenden Morrow, Corey Perry (2) and Shea Weber scored for Canada, while Dmitri Kalinin, Maxim Afinogenov and Sergei Gonchar had Russia’s goals.

Canada now faces a underdog, darkhorse Slovakia led by Vancouver Canucks reborn forward Pavol Demitra and Montreal Backup Goalie Jaroslav Halak.

Solvakia cannot be taken lightly as they also beat Russia and recently defending champion Sweden. Watch out for big Chara on the backend as he will look to play alot of minutes against Canada who has quickly gelled in the last 2 games. Winner goes to the gold medal Game on Sunday. Loser goes home…….

Canada faces their toughest challenge yet…. Russia

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

aside from themselves the biggest challenge for Canada is Russia. Win and we move on. Lose and suffer the indignity of losing being eliminated on our home ice with no medal.

the way I look at it is that germany extra game was what we needed a warm up game for lou and for the team. every team playing today has to play a team that are all favorites to win gold. there is not ONE weak team nor ONE strong team that can be defined over another as better or worse (on paper yes but not on the ice noone has dominated anything)

sweden is in tough, US is in tough, canada is in tough, finland is in tough, russia is in tough, slovakia is in tough, Czech is in tough, swiss is in tough. all now have the play the same number of games to get to the gold. all now are in elimination games. its balls out or go home. luo is ready and able. the forwards are ready and able. the d is ready and able. just hope Babcock makes the right decisions regarding all 3. go canada go
